If God Sends Us On Stony Paths He Provides Strong Shoes

“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch Christian author, who along with her father and other family members helped many Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust during World War II had been quoted as saying, “If God sends us on stony paths He provides strong shoes.”

Have you ever walked on a stone road in your bare feet or shoes with insufficient soles? I know I have done both and my feet were bruised and cut. Whatever the terrain may be when we decide to take a walk, we are to be prepared for what we may come across.

This brings to mind a marine as he prepares to go on patrol. Does he wear sandals as he hikes the rough terrain? Of course not. He wears rugged boots that will protect his feet for the long haul of the unknown that is ahead of him.

On the 22nd of June my husband Jim, who is my caregiver, will have surgery on his lower spine to remove a “tumor/lesion” along with unknown “debris” around that area as well. (Update: He had a laminectomy and is recovery one day at a time.) The surgeon has said he has never seen anything like this “lesion” before so he is anxious to get “in there” to see what exactly is going on in Jim’s spine.

Needless to say, our friends and family have been storming the gates of Heaven on Jim’s behalf. And as the saying goes, “If God sends us on stony paths He provides strong shoes.” Even though Jim is “traveling” on stony paths right now as his physical circumstances seem a bit scary because of the unknown, he has “one big known” in his life because he has stepped into the strong shoes of the All Knowing Great I Am–His Savoir, Jesus Christ. His grace is truly sufficient for him.

If you are walking through stony paths right now, my prayer is that you too will rest assured in His all sufficient Grace.

Prayer: Lord, I know that there will be days You may send us on those stony paths, or at least let the stones fall into our pathway. I pray that I will always know that You are there beside me, providing those strong shoes, and allowing me to step into Your footsteps all the way. Amen.

  1. Michelle – great analogy of how we are to walk the roads of our life experiences wearing the right footwear that only God can give to us. Praying for a good recovery for your husband and strength for you as he does.
