“When the Angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, ‘The Lord is with you, Mighty Warrior.’ ‘Pardon Me, my lord,’ Gideon, replied, ‘but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us.’ … The Lord turned to Him and said, ‘go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Median’s hand, are I not sending you?'” (Judges 6:13-14).
Have you ever felt like you have had the same conversation with the Lord as Gideon?
Perhaps He’s telling you to take on a new project, one that will require much time and effort. To take it on in your already busy schedule of doctor appointments, family responsibilities, caregiver role, or the daily life of illness. All which seem overwhelming already–yet He is gently revealing to you a new journey to join Him on–one that may be difficult but will expand your relationship together.
Yes, when that happens I admit to being the first to say, as Gideon, “Pardon me, my Lord?”
I can also identify with the questions he proposes to the Lord. Why is all this happening to me or my family? Where are your miracles and wonders? You know, the ones you did for my family in the past, my ancestors? (paraphrased verse 13)
Like Gideon, I too can look back in mine and my family’s life, seeing the gift of God’s provision, healing, His protection; Yet Often, I’m sad to say, like Gideon, I’ve used the excuse; I’m too weak, (verse 15), or my schedule too full.
But then we see a glimmer of hope as Gideon asks for a sign, proof of who God is (verse 17-18); “And the Lord said, “I will wait until you return.”
Not only is our Lord willing to grant Gideon proof, (which He does several times) but notice His words,” I will wait until you return.”
Oh, what an amazing Father! As with Gideon, He patiently waits on His children–you and I–as we work through our own lessons in obedience, trust, and provision.
Let us take strength from Gideon’s journey. The Lord proved that He would provide everything needed to accomplish it, just as He will for you and me!
Prayer: Father, as we continue to grow in our love and relationship with You, help us not doubt Your sovereign plan for our lives. To know that You will always provide whatever is necessary for us to accomplish what You desire for us to do, and to humbly give Yyou the glory as it is completed. Amen.

This is Royal Tailor singing “Hold Me Together.” The lyrics are about how we ask God “can you hold me together because I am falling apart?” Whether life is just confusing and you feel disheartened, or you feel like God is asking more of you than you are capable of giving, I think you can relate to this song. Hope it blesses you. Hugs. -Lisa
