Are You Just Getting Through Life or …?

getting-throughAre you just getting through circumstances or asking God what His purpose for you is in it? Julie shares.

“And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast” (1 Peter 5:10).

I have a family member who likes to send little clippings of articles he finds very interesting. Although many of them are interesting, it feels a bit like homework, and sometimes I mindlessly read through the material just to get through it.

Do you ever find yourself just going through the motions with your devotions and just get through the portion of Scripture for that day without really learning from it?

There is no benefit to just “getting through it.” The same applies when we are going through a tough time. If we just “get through it,” and do not learn anything from it, there is no benefit.

But God is teaching each person their own personalized lesson. We need to stop and ask God what He is teaching us through those tough times and try to learn more about God through them. Don’t just get through your present trial.

There is something very important God wants you to know or do.

At other times, God wants to make us more fruitful through our suffering. Did you know that if a fruit tree is not bearing fruit, one way to get it to produce more is by wounding it?

Apparently this sends the tree into survival mode, and it produces more fruit to persevere. God chose to make the tree produce more fruit when it is injured, and sometimes He chooses to make us more productive through the same principle.

Whatever you are going through, God is using it to improve you. What will you take from this experience? Will you become closer to God? Will you be more compassionate and become a help to others? Will it open a new ministry for you?

Consider what God is trying to accomplish in your life. Don’t just get through it.

Prayer: Lord God, are You trying to get my attention for something important You have in mind for me? Please reveal what Your plan for me is through this trial. Help me to understand Your heart so I can benefit from my experiences. Amen.

What could God be trying to tell you during this time you are going through? How can it be used for good?

This is the group Love is the Outcome singing a song called “He is With Us.” The lyrics share how He does have a purpose in it all, and yeah, even though we may not be real thrilled with how God is teaching us something, He truly does have a reason and He will protect us from circumstances that (believe it or not) could be even worse than we have now. Just keep trusting Him one day at a time. -Lisa
