Have you ever felt the path God sent you on was completely illogical? Lisa shares.
“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 16:25).
Life is full of choices. My husband changed his plans to get an engineering degree to pursue music, after receiving an unexpected music scholarship. I was to attend a state university, living nearby in a Christian dormitory. Instead, I lived two years in a sorority.
What made us choose the illogical?
We both felt the promptings of Holy Spirit. Despite the eye-rollings we received from some people–who thought our choices couldn’t possibly be right–we listened to God.
As my husband’s unemployment now makes him question those early job path choices he made, I assure him. “You went where God led you–and God is not abandoning you now, nor discounting the significant of your obedience.”
What is another way of interpreting this verse?
“There is a way that appears to be wrong, but in the end it leads to life.”
This scripture assures me of many things. In this one verse God tells us . . .
“I am always here . . . but you won’t always see Me.
I will always bless you . . . but it won’t always feel like it.
When you ask Me to guide you, I will always lead you . . . but there will be times when you wonder if you missed a turn I told you to make.
I will always want your comfort . . . but I would rather help you build character.
We measure everything by our scales. And chronic illness messes with those scales.
Should you have gotten a more marketable degree so you could find a job that works with your disabilities? Should you have tried that new medication when it first was available to see if it could provide relief? Should you have not bought your house, now that you can barely get up and down the stairs?
Seek God’s wisdom every day in every choice you make. And then put all doubts aside. The choices you make that seem to make the most sense, may not be the one God desires for you.

This is the song “Broken Man” by Unspoken. It speaks of how we can never make it on our own and how even though we have read the Word, sung the songs, we still may want something more. It takes brokenness to fully appreciate the love and unconditional grace of God. The things that people tell us will heal us never work. Only God is the source of a new beginning.
