Because of Him

because-of-himTired of the dreary days? Whether the darkness due to the winter blues or it is seeping into your soul, Kay shares how to find the light again.

“This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5).

I live in Texas, so we are used to having lots of sunshine, even in the winter. Well, this year we’ve had a lot of dark, dreary days and now–to boot (a Texas term!) –we have had to deal with several rounds of ice and snow.

As I type, we are expecting another round this afternoon. We don’t like ice and snow. We don’t like dark and dreary . . . those are just some of the reasons why we love and live in Texas!

What, then, do we do? Our verse for today says: “This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.”

Boom. Our answer? Turn to God, who is our light, even on dark, dreary, icy, snowy days!

This thought amazes me: The God of the universe provides our most essential needs just by His very being. He is not only the essence of light, He provides it for His children . . . no matter our circumstance.

Because of Him and the light He provides His children, we can persevere through the darkest of days, whether there is literal darkness or circumstances that are deemed full of darkness.

Because of Him, we have hope and as (Romans 5:5) states: “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”

Because of Him we “fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).

Because of Him . . . Amen!

Prayer: Father, I thank You that You are our light when there seems to be no light around us. That because of You, we can still have hope in the midst of darkness. Because of You we can shine Your light for those around us, so that they, too can experience Your light and hope in the midst of their darkness. Because of You, we can fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen which is eternal. In Jesus Name, Amen.

How has the light of God helped you persevere during this winter season?

As I read through Kay’s message I kept thinking of the song “Because He Lives” written and sang many years ago by the Gaithers. Even when my son was a baby, this is one of the songs I would sing to him in his rocking chair. And it is the perfect song to hear in this EASTER season. Because of Jesus. . . Those words open up the endless possibilities of what God can do in our lives. We can face uncertain days… Bless you. -Lisa
