“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings” (1 Peter 5:8-9).
I absolutely love animals, and I love watching nature shows–until they get to the part where one animal preys on another and launches an attack! Ultimately it destroys the poor thing.
I always have trouble watching those parts, and in fact, sometimes I just change the channel. But if you have ever watched those programs, you will notice that when the lions hunt for prey they rarely go for the strongest, healthiest animal. No, a lion will look for the weaker animal to devour.
Peter painted an accurate mental picture for us when he depicted satan as a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. He is on the prowl, looking for someone who is already weakened, perhaps from a difficult spiritual trial. This is when he will strike.
Perhaps you are feeling rather weak right now. Maybe you can feel the enemy on your heels, bombarding you with more trials than you think you can bear. It may help to know that many of your family of believers here at Rest Ministries are also going through very difficult times.
Together we can help each other.
Do you remember what Jesus did after fasting for 40 days, physically weakened, and then attacked by the devil attacked? (Matthew 4:1-11). He quoted Scripture!
Take note that after this the devil left! So if Christ Himself used Scripture to battle Satan, isn’t that a good example of what we need to do?
When you are weak, when Satan is attacking, get into the Word and use it to do battle. It is the sword that can slay the lion (Hebrews 4:12). Praying scripture is very powerful against the enemy. So claim verses aloud while you are praying. The devil isn’t hearing you when you quote verses aloud–he hears God!
Prayer: Lord God, I know there are many of Your children out there right now who are in a weakened state and being pursued by satan who seeks to devour them. Help them to resist him. Help them to stand firm in the faith. Strengthen them, Lord! They need Your presence in their weakness. Amen.

I think you are going to like the lyrics in this song. It is For King and Country singing “Shoulders” and it is all about relying on God’s shoulder when we feel weak, misunderstood, confused, tired, and even ill. Take a few minutes out of your day to listen… And maybe even share it with someone you know who needs reminded that God has big shoulders. -Lisa
