Giving the Gift of God’s Love This Week

giftWhen we know Jesus the season of giving a gift never ends. Julie explains.

“The righteous give without sparing” (Proverbs 21:26).

During the Christmas season, our minds are consumed with what gifts we can buy to give joy to our loved ones. When we give these types of gifts, we reap the benefit of love in return. The more I mature, however, the more I realize how much more rewarding it is to give than to receive.

God gave us the ultimate gift–the gift of His only Son–for our opportunity to be with Him forever. In light of that, we as Christians should be willing to give gifts of the heart to others without expecting or even witnessing any reward in return. These are the gifts anyone can afford to give.

Romans chapter 12 lists things we can give from the heart to others that will last far beyond material things.

“Honor one another above yourselves.” It is much more natural to put yourself first, but perhaps you can pray that God blesses someone who needs it more than you pray that God will bless you.

“Mourn with those who mourn.” Try to relieve those who are suffering rather than concentrating on your own pain.

“Be willing to associate with people of low position” and “live at peace with everyone.” Don’t dwell on people’s faults. Instead, concentrate on their good points.

“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need.” Is there a ministry or organization you could give to without any expecting any recognition for yourself?

Can you think of someone who is in need of a gift from the heart? This is a lonely week for so many people. Your gift to someone–from your heart–will also be a gift from you to the Lord.

Prayer: Dear Father, You gave the ultimate gift to me in Your Son! Help me to put aside my selfish desires and give to others from my heart as You would have me do. Amen.

Who could use my encouragement or help today? How can you show Christ through a gift from your heart?

This is Jason Gray singing, “With Every Act of Love.” It is a beautiful reminder that we are representing Jesus and that every little thing makes a difference. Don’t underestimate how you can show Jesus’ love wherever you go. -Lisa
