The Power Of The Finger Of God

finger-of-godWhen you are weak, Kerryn reminds us of the power in the finger of God–literally!

“The magicians said to Pharaoh, ‘This is the finger of God.’ But Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the Lord had said” (Exodus 8:19).

There are times during illnesses where we “can’t lift a finger.” It’s frustrating when others need to do what I’d like to do for myself!

Yet, have you noticed that a finger is all it takes to operate multitudinous machines in our modern world?

Our technical world has meant that remote controls can operate just about anything with a finger. These gadgets have really assisted those who are ill in enormous ways. What a blessing!

As I dwelt upon the power of a finger pushing keys on a laptop to communicate I was reminded that the “finger of God” wrote the most powerful words that guide our world.

“When the Lord finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, He gave him the two tablets of the covenant law, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God” (Exodus 31:18).

Not only that, but God created our heavenly skies with His fingers! What wondrous creativity!

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place” (Psalm 8:3).

One of the most powerful stories of forgiveness involves Jesus writing with His finger.

“They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger” (John 8:6).

What unimaginable power comes from the “finger of God.” As we’re made in His image it’s not surprising that there’s more and more being created from man’s fingers too.

It reminds me that it needs to be God’s power coming from our fingers. What incredible communication, creativity, and forgiveness can also evolve, as we allow God to work through our fingers.

Let’s pray for God to use our fingers.

Prayer: Lord, sometimes it’s “too hard to even lift a finger” during illnesses. Yet You’ve guided people to make so many creative supports for us that only require a finger. Help us to be wise and prayerful as we use our fingers for You in various ways. Amen.
