I’ve Had Enough, Lord!

enough2Have you had enough? Fiona shares how God can meet our immediate needs when we are the most desperate.

“Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said.

The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, ‘Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.’

The Lord said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by'” (1 Kings 19:3-4a, 7, 11).

Many times I’ve felt that I’ve just had enough, that I can’t keep on doing life with chronic pain anymore. Pain is so wearing on both the mind and the body.

Elijah had just had that wonderful experience of God pouring down fire on the altar in front of the prophets of Baal. Showing that only God was worthy of the people’s worship and the gods of Baal were useless.

Yet not long afterwards he’s running away in fear of his life and telling God he’s had enough.

We all go through times when things seem overwhelming, but hopefully we have times when we see God clearly working in our lives.

As I read this story again today, I was encouraged by the fact that God sent His angels to provide what Elijah needed to sustain him–even in his time of distress.

God knew what he needed. As well as providing food, rest, strength for the journey, Elijah later got to stand on the mountain of Horeb and feel the presence of the Lord as He passed by.

God still had things for Elijah to do–and maybe the encouragement of experiencing God so clearly, helped him to be ready for that.

It can often seem like we are facing attacks from the devil, right on the heels of those mountain top experiences.

Like Elijah we may have times when we feel and know God’s presence more strongly in our lives. Maybe those times come when we are at our lowest, when we feel we’ve had enough and are struggling to go on. God understands our fears and our times of despair and is there ready to encourage us to go on and do what He has planned for us to do.

Prayer: Lord, You know me. Thank You for meeting us all in our times of distress and for being enough, when we feel like we’ve had enough. Teach us to rely on You and to remain in Your presence every day. Amen.

How had God met you, when you’ve felt like you’ve had enough and can’t go on?

When you are having one of these days Fiona describes, this song, “Take Me” with Hawk Nelson may be just the one to sing as you surrender it all. The lyrics speak of how we are willing to give it all over to God if He will just show us a His face. We have times when we so need to see Him! Hope this blesses you. -Lisa
