Do You Envy the Blessings Others Have?

envyThough we may be envious of the blessings some seem to have, Julie reminds us that we can find blessings because of whose we are–not what we have.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world'” (Matthew 25:34).

I am a little ashamed to admit it, but I am jealous of super model Christie Brinkley. She is 60 years old and still absolutely beautiful, rich, famous, healthy, and unfortunately even looks like she is nice! It has made me wonder, “Why wasn’t I blessed like that?”

In Matthew chapter 5, Jesus gives a list of the kinds of people who are blessed in what is known as the beatitudes. If you are not familiar with this passage, please read that chapter. Does it ever mention those who are healthy? Rich? Beautiful? Doesn’t that seem a little odd?

Most people see Christie Brinkley as blessed. Or perhaps that aging rocker who is married to a gorgeous trophy wife, living a life of constant pleasure and possessing a seemingly endless supply of money. But even though people in our world think these are the blessed people, God never mentions that type as being blessed.

When we focus our eyes where they should be–on God–we realize that yes, I am blessed, more than these, because I have Him. Having Him is having more than physical beauty. Having Him means more than having a healthy body. Having Him is more important than having unlimited finances. I am blessed! I have Him!

I have a great inheritance waiting for me! Instead of looking at others and wishing you could be like them, remember that Christ is your source of power, of joy, of all things good and this source of blessing will last for eternity.

Yours is the kingdom of heaven, you will be comforted, you will inherit the earth, you will be filled with righteousness, you will obtain mercy, you shall see God and be called the sons and daughters of God!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, open my eyes to all the wonderful blessings You have given me. I thank You and praise You for being the source of everything good in my life! Amen.
