“‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went” (Matthew 21:29).
About two weeks before the Thanksgiving holiday last year, when I saw my doctor, I knew I had to make a big adjustment in my life. My love affair with sugary sweet foods was over. Diabetes closed that door, and I had to make some adjustments.
I generally do not like adjusting my life, but as we get older, as our healthy condition changes to an unhealthy situation, we must make changes–adjust to therapies, medications, or whatever our new condition requires.
Worsening health conditions can put us into an almost continual cycle of making adjustments. Keeping these ill bodies going can take much work and effort. We can wear ourselves out just trying to avoid becoming even more ill. And we can become discouraged by the endless challenges our deteriorating physical condition presents us with.
When adjustments in our life are needed, our frustration and disappointment can mount, driving us to our knees. The best thing to do when you are knocked to your knees is to look up and pray, asking God to help you make the adjustments necessary for your health.
I can promise you that right before the holidays last year the last thing I wanted to adjust away from my life was pumpkin pie and numerous other desserts. Perhaps your illness has caused you much harsher “adjustments.” We need help to adjust our lives to the new conditions we face, and that help comes from the Lord Jesus.
As you face adjustments in your life, don’t try to deal with them alone. Ask family and friends for support, and invite the Lord into the situation. Adjusting our lives is so much easier when the Lord is included in the process.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we face endless changes, continual adjustments in our life, help us, give us the strength and wisdom to make the changes that are necessary. Amen.

This song is called “Yesterday” and is by Jonny Diaz. If you have had a bad day, or you haven’t dealt well with the transitions in your life, this song may bring some hope. We must learn to let it go and look toward God to lead us to the next step. Hang in there. Tomorrow has a good chance to be better–at the very least, if you turn it over to God, you can know that He is in control. -Lisa
