Finding the Peace that Will Change Your Life

peaceIs there really a peace that can overcome our worries that illness brings? Charles says yes.

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).

Lately, my life has been full of pain and even fear. The left side of my back began hurting so bad that I was scared that something went in my back again and I was heading towards horrific non-stop pain that I had dealt with in the past. Thankfully, I just tweaked something and I am on the mend, but many of you have been through this sort of fear as well.

As I struggled with fear the Lord reminded me through this verse of Scripture that He is still in control, even when we feel things are about to spiral out of control. His perfect peace, His peace that I cannot explain, was upon my heart. This peace turned my anxiety and fear into peace and trusting that He was going to take care of me.

Living in this peace, the Lord will guard our hearts and minds from the daily negativity that fills our world. Instead of living with negative thoughts, we will fill our hearts and minds with the positive things we find through Jesus. When we are struggling to make it through the day, we will deal with these situations in a way that shocks the world and glorifies God.

As we deal with chronic illness and daily pain, I encourage you to place yourself in God’s presence every day. We can do this through the reading of His Word, through speaking with Him through prayer, through listening to uplifting music, and through many other things that might connect us to the Lord. In doing this, we will experience His peace in the midst of the storm and experience a peace the world cannot give.

Prayer: Father, thank You for giving us a perfect peace, even in the midst of the storms of life. Help us to always trust in You, even in times where we feel that things are spiraling out of control. Thank You that we do not have to go through these experiences alone, but You are there to give us Your peace. Amen.

What can we do to allow the peace of God to reign supreme in our life?

It can be hard to just rest in God because we always feel like we need to be doing something, preparing, fighting, planning. We feel the fear of the circumstances and try to discover ways to combat it. It doesn’t make sense in our head to rest! But this is what God desires. In this song, “Take Rest in Me” with Deitrick Haddon reminds us of the true rest that God provide to give us the peace we search for. I know I needed to hear it. -Lisa
