My Heart Dances Despite the Struggles

heart-dancesWhether your body dances or not Jackie shares how her heart dances with the blessings God provides.

“Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp” (Psalm 149:3).

I can’t dance. I found that out for sure when at 42 I went back to college and took ballroom dancing for physical education. I was horribly humiliated! Most of my partners were eighteen-year-old boys who could dance effortlessly. I couldn’t even figure out where to put my feet. I think I got a “B” in the course because the instructor took pity on me and I received a good grade on the written exam.

Oh well, I know I’m good at one kind of dancing though–dancing in my heart to the Lord.

When the weather is nice my husband and I go out to the Cove Park and sit for 2 to 3 hours reading, talking, and taking in the beautiful scenery. The park is surrounded by a peaceful, crystal-clear lake and is alive with ducks, geese, blue herons, squirrels, a canopy of trees overhead, and children laughing. This time of the year the new baby geese and ducks are marching behind their mothers.

My heart dances.

I think about my beloved husband, children, and grandchildren who give me much joy and my heart dances. Then I think about all my supportive, fun-loving friends and my heart continues to dance.

My daughter-in-law to be cooks for my husband and me 2-3 times a week. I’m my husband’s caregiver because he has a form of dementia. His care is so time-consuming so Judy who loves to cook (and I don’t) brings food over. What a joy—my heart really dances!

There are times that we have to dance in the rain when everything is not going just right, when our chronic disease flares up.

At those times, we have to look more carefully for chances to dance. But, best of all, I think about my Lord. Just the thought of his name causes my heart to dance. After all, He is the Lord of the dance.

Prayer: Dear Lord, Let me never be too serious to experience pure joy, to happily dance in my heart for all of Your magnificent blessings. Amen.
