Are You Standing on the Summit or Clinging to the Rock?

summittAre you standing on the summit of illness or still clinging to that rock? Diane explains.

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken” (Psalm 62:1-2).<

Have you ever watched one of those programs on the television where an expedition group is facing insurmountable danger, fear and pain? They use every ounce of strength to climb up the face of a steep and rocky cliff! Their focus is to reach that beautiful summit, to have that euphoric experience of knowing they have reached their goal, feeling joy and pride.

As I read this verse it impressed on me how like those expedition groups we are, as we deal with chronic illness. The struggles we encounter daily to achieve our goals for that day, are similar to those climbers as they grasp onto each little crevice to make their assent to the summit.

The advantage we have is as we inch our way up that rock face, we know before we set out on this journey, we began with a firm foundation in Christ. As we climb and grasp onto each ragged crevice, we can take joy in knowing we are not alone on this expedition, but we have the immeasurable power and strength of our Heavenly Father.

He is the lead climber, his rope of safety securely tied around us, that we will not fall to the jagged rocks in the pit below; slowly finding the best route, carefully pointing out where and what to hold onto. Then when we reach that beautiful summit, we will be standing side by side with Him, with a joy that fills our hearts, too spectacular for words!

I don’t know where you are at on your climb, be it at the cliff’s bottom, on the side or the summit, but God does. How reassuring that we can have peace, relying on Him, our “rock,” our “fortress” in Him, we will not be shaken!

Prayer: Dear Father, today my prayer is that each of us, as we journey together with you on this great expedition called, life, we will remember you are always in the lead. Preparing the way and keeping us safe, so we can enjoy the times of joy as we summit with you. Thank you, Amen.
