Are You Mindful of God’s Attention to Detail?

detailWhen life feels overwhelming look for God’s attention to detail. Shelly shares.

“Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!” (Luke 12:24).

I have always loved spying a red-winged blackbird. I know that they are the most common birds in the Americas. But there’s just something about driving down the road and thinking you’re looking at a plain old ordinary black bird perched on a bush, only to discover that flash of red as you speed by.

It’s like God saying, “I’m a God who enjoys surprises.”

He is such a mindful creator that He thought to give a splash of vivid color to the shoulder of the most common bird. Not only does He take care of all the important stuff, He adds embellishment. He offers beauty just for beauty’s sake. He appreciates touches that serve no purpose but to inspire a smile.

Yeah, He’s a God like that.

I was reminded of that today. Flying past field after field bitter with creeping cold, holding back waves of dizziness. As we rounded that final curve on the home stretch, my favorite song came on the radio just as I noticed that the fields were full to bursting with blackbirds.

Red-winged blackbirds. None were fretting over what would happen to them in the coming snow or storing away or flying frantically without purpose. None were questioning their Maker. They were feasting, flying, delighting in His goodness. Relying on His promise.

And with just a momentary glint of the sunlight on a red-shouldered wing, I was whole. Fears erased, worries set aside, sickness inconsequential.

My God takes the time to splash color on the most common bird on this continent. He fills a field with offerings for them as the cold sweeps through. And He times my homecoming just perfectly so that I can see this and be reminded. While the soundtrack plays my favorite song, I rest in Him. And I thank God, once again, for red-winged blackbirds.

Prayer: Thank You, gracious God, for Your tender care of us, even to the smallest details. . . and for never tiring of reminding us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Take a few minutes to be blessed by the classic song, “Amazing Grace.” Shelly heard this version, an instrumental, with Josh Wilson on the radio today and was eager to share it with you. -Lisa
