How Can Your Heart Survive More Opinions?

heartThe remarks and insinuations about the cause of your illness can sting deeply. Dorothea shares how to make them less painful.

“The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:17).

King David is one of my favorite Bible characters. Studying David’s life encourages me. No matter how flawed he was or how many times he failed, David repented, picked himself up, and went forward. He continuously pursued God.

He was judged, wrongly accused, criticized, and misunderstood. He was far from perfect, but he stayed focused on his relationship with God, and God used David’s life in a glorious way.

I have been called lazy; told that exercise would cure my fatigue; had it suggested that I only “thought” I was ill; accused of wanting attention and wallowing in self-pity; and been reprimanded for having weak faith. Close friends and relatives were the ones inflicting the pain.

I am so thankful for the comfort I find in God’s Word! The Lord knows what’s in our hearts. He is the only One who knows everything about us. So, we can’t allow careless judgments to stop us from doing God’s will. Our main focus should be like David’s–seeking God.

No matter how illness limits us, we can rest assured that God has a definite purpose for our lives. We must not fear people or their attitudes (Isaiah 51:7).

So I pray that you will go forward, always obeying God. He will strengthen you to accomplish His plan for your life.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for creating us in a wonderful way (Psalm 139:14). Help us to trust You to lead us and guide us as we live our lives for Your glory. Amen.

They say the closer we draw to God the less the words of others will bring us pain. Have you experienced this yet?

There will be days when we shut the bathroom door and sob. That is a reality in this world, but thankfully we have a God who is there listening to us cry and reaching out to us. This song, “You’re Not Alone” with Meredith Andrews, is a lovely reminder that You don’t have to go through this life alone. Love this song! I hope it blesses you too. -Lisa
