How Do we Bear the Burden of Another When We Don’t Understand?

burdenCan you share the burden of someone even if you don’t really understand what he or she is experiencing? Karlton shares.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)

Recently my wife and I were complaining back and forth. I told her, “You would not want to have to deal with my problem.” And she replied: “No, but you would not want to have to deal with my problem either.” To which I replied: “No, I wouldn’t.”

I suspect that each one of us is given just the sort of challenges that each of us is meant to have. There are people who could never deal with my issues, and I know I could never face the challenges others are living with. I think God, in His wisdom, allows us just the sort of challenges that we are capable of enduring.

But that does not mean we should not care for and encourage one another. Though we cannot literally bear one another’s burden, we can share their concern and hold onto them as they go through their portion of life’s challenges. We need to support one another.

When we live with burdens too big to carry alone it helps to talk to others, get their perspective, and receive encouragement from them. More than this, it is absolutely necessary to take our cares and burdens to the Lord, to receive His grace, peace, and His encouragement. We must allow the Lord to carry us when we cannot carry ourselves.

Reaching out to others, finding comfort in your affliction can be a great blessing, but if you are never willing to share your challenges you will not receive comfort from others. Call upon the Lord, pour your heart out to Him, and allow His peace to replace your cares and worries.

Prayer: Dear Lord, our burdens sometimes seem beyond bearing. Help us to share our cares and worries with others, but also with You. Amen.

Do your burdens feel overwhelming? Have you tried sharing them with others or with the Lord?

We all have some kind of encouragement we can give to another and this song has a wonderful message and reminder, as Matt Maher sings “Hold Us Together.” In some of the comments I read many stories of how God used this song in significant ways to remind people just how much He loved them and how everything would be okay. -Lisa
