Have you ever watched how hard ants work? Kerryn shares what we can learn from these small creatures.
“Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer” (Proverbs 30:24-25).
When I watch ants I’m amazed by their frenetic energy. Oh, to have that energy–even occasionally! Recently, I watched a short clip of the uncovering of an ant hill and I became teary and emotional. But why?
I realized that I’ve been feeling very insignificant. Everything that I do is so little compared to well people out in the “real world.” This thinking gradually spirals me downward into despair. But wait! God has another view for all of us in our closed off world of illnesses.
We can’t see the amazing world that an ant creates underground in the darkness. It’s a hidden world that’s created by tiny insignificant creatures. Daily they take minute steps compared to bigger creatures. Together the ants just seem to know what to do; not only to survive, but to thrive.
All of us suffering illnesses take our tiny little steps. Together we work synergistically to create our own little world on Rest Ministries.
The Sunroom is a place which we build together to encourage others, pray, and minister in the roles that God created us for. It’s not a seen world, to the outsiders, but oh, how God is growing it and using us to work together.
This may not seem much to the outside world. However, if an outsider dug in deep to the RM Sunroom, I’m sure that they would be just as amazed and moved as I was when I saw the revealing of the ant hill. (Clip below.)
Be encouraged! We are far more significant than the ants to our dear Abba Father. We are His children and He is pleased with the little steps that we’re taking.
He knows. He understands. God is blessing us all in the Sunroom with growth, not only to survive, but to thrive.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for Your renewed perspectives that encourage me. Help me to remember that I’m not only to survive, but to thrive. Help me to come in contact with others who’ll work synergystically with me, to create the opportunities for all who come to the Sunroom to grow in You. Amen.

Kerryn Wright lives with her family amongst the gum trees in South Australia. She was a special education teacher prior to chronic illnesses. Her husband is carer for two of their family, who have chronic illnesses and disabilities. God has always guided them through life’s challenges, often in surprising ways.
When you’re feeling insignificant what helps you? How can you thrive with God? Have you visited the Sunroom?
This devotional is based upon a video Kerryn recently watched that she wanted to share with you. It is truly unbelievable! It is a video of “the world’s largest ant hill,” though I suspect it is not actually the largest one out there.
Scientists fill it with cement and then dig out the dirt around it. Seeing this magnificent structure is another reminder of just how many details our God takes care of. -Lisa
