Could This Be A Miracle, Lord

miracleKerryn has some fabulous news we can celebrate, and she also shares how she is guarding her heart from asking too many questions.

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:30-31).

My middle son has been healed!

I still find those words hard to type . . . but why?

What is it about physical healing that causes me to struggle to tell you about it, to encourage you in your own illness journeys? I regularly hear doubts about whether God heals people physically. It’s not surprising, since:

  • most of us reading this are sick, many with a myriad of illnesses
  • we’re commonly given false teaching that batters us into thinking that illness is choosing not to be well (as if!)
  • many falsely say that we don’t have enough faith to be healed (grrr)
  • we need to protect ourselves from constantly being disappointed when we wake each day, often sicker than the day before

Yet, what has happened is a miracle and God wants me to share it with you!

My middle son was suddenly and miraculously healed this August. He’s suffered seven long years of multiple illnesses, with chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome being the worst illness. He’s missed out on life with his mates from age 17-24, being bed, chair, and house-bound for most of that time.

He will tell you that the healing was all about God and nothing about him. You see, he’d moved away from his faith–out of anger and frustration. He was faithless . . . and yet God healed him! So it was not about his faith.

There have been lots of attempts to explain away his healing through rational thinking, but it can’t be explained that way. God healed him, it’s as simple as that!

The verse at the top has been my middle son’s life verse, since he was a young child, starting many years before he became ill. I cross-stitched this verse, with an eagle, during hours of sitting with him in his 9-week hospital stay in 2009, before I became ill. It has more meaning to he and I than I could possible explain.

Today, we’re celebrating that he has renewed strength, is running and not growing weary, and is walking and not fainting. This is a time of great celebration for all of our family.

It’s tipped our lives upside down, in a good way! It’s caused questions, searching, and scratching our heads. Why does God heal one person and not another? I don’t know and have realized that I don’t need to know.

Isaiah 55:8-9 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

I’m learning to trust God in a deeper way. My middle son is healed and I am not, but “It Is Well With My Soul.”

Prayer: Dear Lord, I do not understand Your ways! Let that be well with my soul. Help me to hope in You, not to gain anything, but simply because You are my everything. I love You, Lord. Amen.

What are your thoughts on healing? How have your thoughts on healing changed, since illness? What anger and resentments would be healthy to release to God today?
