Drifting Through The Struggles in Life

Are you drifting out into the depths of doubt? Diane shares how God is there to lift you back.

“He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.” (Psalm 18:16)

Have you ever felt like you were in the depths of the ocean, drifting farther and farther from the shore? Recently I have gone through one of those times with my illness. It seemed as though I was being carried away, tossed to and fro with the waves of pain and illness thrashing over my head, threatening to take me under.

Not only was I physically in pain but my thought life was also fighting the enemy, who was determined to undermine my faith and belief in my Lord and savior. Each day he would try to convince me that God no longer cared, that He would not deliver me from this, yet another time of severe illness and pain. That I was not worthy of God’s touch and healing.

I knew these thoughts were not true, but they kept coming in, haunting me, as the pain continued to take its toll. I prayed “Lord, what am I to do?” It is in those times we must depend on what we know is truth. We know in our hearts who God truly is, and how much He loves us. We must depend that whatever lies the enemy would throw at us, God’s Word has a rebuttal for!

As I was drifting in that ocean, God showed me in His Word Psalm 18:16, that He was reaching down and taking hold of me. He would not let me be lost. As I read on in Psalms, verse 19 said, “He brought me out into a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me.”

I couldn’t help but picture Him lifting me up out of that sea of pain and setting me onto the sandy shore–safe, peaceful, calm, and loved. He gave me exactly what I needed–at exactly the right time–to continue on.

What an amazing, loving God we have! When we feel we are no longer capable of swimming back to that shore, through the sea of pain and illness, God in His wisdom and mercy, reaches down from on high and draws us up out of those depths and rescues us.

Prayer: Father, we know that You are stronger and more powerful than anything that can touch our lives here on this earth. Thank You, Lord, that You lift us up from those depths and delight in doing so just because we are Your children and You love us. Let us always be mindful that Your love, peace, and comfort are there for us every day every moment of our life. Amen.

Diane and I thought you would enjoy this song, “Drifting” with Plumb. It is a nice reminder that when we feel we are drifting, we are never alone and God’s desire is ti bring us back to Him. -Lisa

  1. Beautiful, beautiful! Have felt this way so often and you’re right, the only way out of it is to hold to what we know is true through the awful moments. You blessed me today by sharing this 🙂
