“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You care for him?” (Psalm 8:3-4)
In our area of rural Indiana, when it is night time, it is dark. I mean dark–like before city lights or smog clouded up the skies. There are millions of tiny points of light.
My daughter knows the names of many stars and constellations, because my two children grew up looking at the stars. When my kids were little, we would all pack a picnic, and bring sleeping bags and flashlights out to our side yard and watch for meteors. We would often see them too!
Now we also sit out and watch for the space station as it orbits across the sky. Most nights it is so clear that we can watch for that one tiny bright star moving across the night sky. It is amazing to think that tiny moving point of light has men working, walking, sleeping, as it floats across the canopy of darkness.
It is even more amazing to think that God, our Creator, set all of these stars in place. He knows the names of all of them!
“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.” (Psalm 147:4-5)
He cares for so many billions of stars and galaxies! Yet, He cares for each one of us. It is almost beyond my comprehension to think that the Creator of the planets and galaxies, cares about my pain and illness.
He cares about your family and job security. He cares about the widow across the street who is deciding between buying food, or her medicine.
He cares for us so personally that Psalm 139 describes it this way:
vs.2: He knows when we sit down and when we rise up
vs.3: He is familiar with all of our ways
vs.4: Before a word is on our tongue He knows it completely
Think of this for one minute: He hems us in–behind and before; and He lays His hand upon us! (vs. 5)
When I am afraid, I ponder that and am so comforted. I am completely covered in His love!
When we are facing an uncertain future because of ill health we can know He is with us, covering us. All creation, all of the stars, the moon, the birds of the air, the grass of the field . . . all our thoughts and fears, He is familiar with. He knows our thoughts, and He is always covering us.
Set an object your have near you, like a mug or TV remote. Now try to put your hand behind it, in front of it, and then lay your hand on top. It doesn’t work, does it? Now put a blanket or cloth on top, then set your hand behind and in front. That is how covered you are in God’s love. Ponder that, and thank Him.
“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth.” (Psalm 8:1)
Prayer: Father, I don’t begin to understand the depths of Your love. But I thank You, and I accept it. Thank You that I can know You are with me. Behind and before, and You lay Your hand upon me. Help me to rest in this truth. In Jesus name, amen.

How does it feel to know you are covered entirely by God and His love?
I just sat and watched this video and was very touched. It is of Patsy Claremont (who dealt with agoraphobia for years) sharing about how when God gave her the verse “let there be light” for her friend going through cancer treatment, she had no idea just what assurance He was providing. It is 8 minute long, but I encourage you to take time to watch it sometime today. -Lisa
