Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: Jesus Understands the Sorrows of Illness

“He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. ” (Isaiah 53:3).

I have been studying the prophets of the Old Testaments lately. I am always “wowed” by the accuracy of events foretold. In Isaiah, Jesus was described long before His birth. I have come to understand that Bible prophecy of the events already unfolded stands true even with the events now and yet to come.

As we read the New Testament events of the life of Jesus, we come to understand that He was a man of many sorrows. He suffered tremendous pain and His hurt ran so deep. Christ died on the Cross, rose from the grave and He ascended to the Father but even knowing this, we as imperfect humans sometimes feel as though He has left us alone in a cold and hard world.

When pain and sorrow touches us so deep that we see no light at the end of the tunnel, it is sometimes hard to realize that we are not treading our rocky paths alone. The Bible tells us that the Lord will never leave you or forsake you.

You are not alone child. There is someone walking with you who knows the pain of sorrow you are suffering intimately! There is someone who loves you so much! That someone is named is Jesus.

May you draw strength today by remembering the prophecies of old. Remember, child, that there is coming a day where sin, sorrow, pain, and death will be no more. In the end we will stand victorious. Until then, hold-on to the promise that you are not alone.

Cling to the reality that you are loved! Grasp for the hand of the Lord who knows and understands. Whatever you do, Don’t give up! The Lord understands everything that has happened to you yesterday, today, and tomorrow!

Are you treading on a rocky and dangerous path? Have you felt rejected by man? Is your tunnel dark and lonely?

Remember child:

Yesterday He died for you!
Today He Lives for you!
Tomorrow He comes for you!
You are never alone!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Please wash our hearts today with the light of Your comfort. Help us to feel your presence in our darkest hours. Remind us today of your love! Give us a peace of mind that carries with it the promise that we are not alone in our battles. We love you Lord! Amen.

When you think of Jesus, do you think of Him as a man of many sorrows? What does this tell us about sorrows? What does it mean about how God feels about sorrows?
