“Yet he (Abraham) did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God being fully persuaded that God had the power to do what He had promised.” (Romans 4:20-21)
This time of the year my allergies kick-in to high gear. Over this past weekend I found myself sneezing, coughing and very congested. Without realizing it at first I soon discovered that the congestion had turned into blood. Because I have new symptoms with my health challenges frequently, I am not usually alarmed. . . but I must admit, this took me by surprise.
Life is like that you know. Nothing is 100% predictable in this world. Change is inevitable and the unexpected can occur at any given moment. This is especially true when illness is in our lives. We can find ourselves faced with new health challenges and new symptoms often. Life throws curve-balls at us continually, making us more aware each day that dependability is rare to find.
We are reminded however, in Romans 4:20-21 that there is one thing that you can always count on and that is God’s Promises. Abraham believed that God would give him a son even though Sarah was very old and past child-bearing years. Abraham had every reason to doubt God’s power to fulfill the promise of a son, but he did not doubt. This gives us the assurance to never doubt the promises that God has made to us through His son, Christ.
When Christ died for our sins and rose again, this gave the Christian reason to hold on to peace, joy and hope even in the midst of suffering. We can know that God loves us unconditionally. We can draw strength through the trials, believing that God will keep His promises.
Hang-on today, dear child, for the Lord loves you so deeply. When the unexpected happens, remember that there is power in faith and power in prayer. The Lord will never leave you or forsake you.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father; Thank you for your Promises! Help us to draw strength through them, especially when we discover an unexpected health challenge. Many dear Lord are suffering today, but I pray that you sooth those who are reading this, as they need your precious healing hand in their lives. Thank you Lord! Amen!
