“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.” (Hebrews 11:1-2)
“Do you still have faith when things don’t go your way?” When our guest speaker asked us this I had to admit I sometimes wonder what God is doing and whether He heard me or not! I have things I want to take place. I have my own idea of how God should work in my life. I don’t necessarily want to think about the “what if’s”. This speaker certainly had to think about the “what if’s” though as his grown daughter battled a brain tumor and one of his grand-children battled cancer.
He prayed for his daughter’s healing every day and I believe he had enough faith for it to happen. But he also believed that no matter what happened, that God’s plan for her life was perfect. He believed that God sees the big picture. He believed God could work good in all situations (Romans 8:28). He believed that God could still use his daughter for His glory. Through tears he praised God and shouted alleluias for the mighty work God had done in their lives.
The silence in the room was thick. The emotional message he shared touched all who heard him speak that day. I was surely reminded that when I don’t know the “whys” behind the scene, I can trust in God who does know. I don’t need to have all the answers to put my faith in Him. And if I continue to seek God He will use my life in amazing ways–in spite of the challenges and physical limitations I may have. That is so reassuring!
So, now I ask you, “Do you still have faith when things don’t go your way? Is God enough when you don’t know ‘why’?”
Prayer: I know You have a wonderful and perfect plan for my life. Help me to see beyond the “whys” and to focus on what You are doing in and through my life. Amen.
