Having a Long Lonely Night? Jesus Is Up And Knows Exactly What Pains You

insomnia-chronic-illness-woman“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness: We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” (Romans 8:26)

Sometimes the long dark nights are the hardest to endure when we are consumed with pain. Every dart of discomfort and very spark of hurt can be magnified in the still quietness of the night. I seek rest, yet cannot find it. I try to sleep, but pain forces me to suffer quietly, as my heart continues to grow more heavy and discouraged.

Sometimes I go beyond the tears, as the minutes slowly tick away. It is in these moments that I can not focus enough to pray elaborately… sometimes all I can do is groan.

In Romans 8:26 Paul reminds us that our prayers are always heard. Even when all I can say to the Lord is “SOS!” I can know that the Holy Spirit is interpreting for me and interceding to the Father on my behalf.

We are so blessed to have a loving Heavenly Father who knows the mind of our intercessor. We have the risen Christ at the right hand of the Father interceding on our behalf. Intercession is having someone in a position of influence and power pleading on our behalf.

Jesus is that Intercessor for us. Within the Trinity where communication is perfectly expressed and perfectly understood above any level of communication we could ever comprehend, it is a comfort to know that we are being represented by one who also suffered while here on earth and knows the pain that we are in intimately. So when our prayers are awkward, we can know that they are being presented to a loving Father who understands our pain and desires to comfort His children.

My “SOS prayer” is heard, and I can trust the Lord to use the pain in my life to strengthen me and prepare me for His purpose. Knowing this can make that long dreary night more bearable.

Have you felt discouraged lately? Send out your SOS to the one waiting to intercede on your behalf today!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for receiving our SOS! Thank you for sending us an interceder! Thank you for the privilege of prayer! Amen!
