Trusting God To Follow The Path He Leads Us On – Even When Ill

“In my distress I called to the LORD; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.” (2 Samuel 22:7)

“Ummmm. . .God?”

“Yes, Child?”

“About this road up ahead …”

“Yes?”

“It’s not quite looking the way I thought it would. I thought things were going straight ahead as planned and. . . ”

“And?”

“And I. . . I wasn’t quite expecting this turn in the road. It’s not going where I thought it would. Lord, I’m scared. I. . .well, I don’t know if I can handle another thing happening. I thought I was at a place where things would settle down. At least for a while. But now. . . ”

“There is nothing wrong with feeling the fear, Child – as long as you bring it and give it to me.”

“I’ve been crying, Lord.”

“I know. But Child, do something for me. Reach down deep inside of you. Tell me: what do you feel–beneath the fear?”

“I feel, why, I feel like something has changed. It’s not the same fear. I’m afraid, but what I need – what I want … is to be close to you.”

“Child, will you walk this path with me?”

“I don’t want to.”

“I know. . .but will you? Will you trust Me enough to walk with Me? Past this turn in the road–and where ever it leads?”

“Why, yes, Lord. I will walk this path – if . . . if you promise to be at my side.”

“You know I will be. I always have been. You just weren’t always aware.”

“Lord, with Your help, I will walk with road wherever it leads. And Lord?”

“Yes child?”

“Thanks for listening.”

Prayer: Father God , Thank you for listening to us when we are afraid of the road ahead. Thank you for your strong reassurance that you will indeed be there with us no matter what the circumstances that befall us. Thank you for your mercy and grace that allows us to endure each and every turn in the road – expected or not. Amen
